Briggs & Son — Decorative Finishing for Listed & Heritage Homes
John Briggs & Son Decorative Finishing Enquire

The finish a listed building deserves

Decorative Finishing
for Heritage Homes

Wallpaper hanging, gilding, graining and colour matching, carried out by decorators who read historic fabric before they touch it.

Every room we take on already has a history. Our work is to continue it, not overwrite it.

What we do

Specialist finishing, not general painting and decorating

Wallpaper Hanging

Difficult and delicate papers — hand-blocked prints, silks, flock and other historic patterns that don't forgive a poor hang.

Gilding

Gold leaf to cornicing, mouldings, mirror and picture frames, and decorative plasterwork.

Graining & Marbling

Traditional faux finishes, reinstated or matched to existing period work.

Paint & Paper Matching

Sourcing or mixing to match an existing scheme, including historic ranges no longer in standard production.

Sash Window Refurbishment & Redecoration

Overhaul, draught-proofing and repainting of original sash windows, finished to match the rest of the scheme.

Painting & Redecoration

Full room schemes carried out with conservation-appropriate paints and finishes, from panelled walls to plasterwork.

Matched, not replaced

A palette built up over decades, held to exactly

Colour, finish and sheen matched to what's already on the wall — not the nearest tin off the shelf.

Fifty years in the craft

Our lead decorator, Paul, marks fifty years in the trade this year — five decades spent on high-end properties and luxury yachts across the UK and Europe. That standard now sits inside a business built on the conservation of listed buildings, so every commission gets the same care we'd bring to a listed façade.

To positively impact as many listed and period properties as we can, through conservation, craft and consultancy.
